Wakeoe Shrine
別小江神社
Shrine
Nagoya, Aichi
Wakeoe Shrine is an interesting blend of tradition and modern flair. Located in a residential neighborhood, this small shrine has become popular for its colorful decorations, such as hanging Japanese umbrellas and seasonal wind chimes which contrast nicely with its classical Shinto architecture. Visitors can also engage with the shrine’s rituals in playful ways, like stroking and lifting the statue of the god Ebisu to bring good fortune.
The shrine offers a different goshuin every month. The goshuin featured here is for the month of October (note the sweet potato, persimmon and chestnut motif).
