Sekizanzenin temple was founded in 888. The specific Fukurokuju hall goshuin shown here is historically significant because the temple is considered the birthplace of the Miyako Shichifukujin, which is the Kyoto Seven Deities of Good Luck pilgrimage. Fukurokujo is primarily known as the deity of wisdom, wealth, happiness, and longevity.
