Sekizan Daimyojin (Sekizanzenin)
赤山大明神 (赤山禅院)

Shrine

Kyoto

This goshuin honors Sekizan Daimyojin at Sekizanzenin, the Shinto deity enshrined to protect Kyoto from the northeast demon gate. While Sekizanzenin is officially a Buddhist temple, it preserves the ancient practice of blending Shinto and Buddhism on the same grounds. Because of this shared history, the complex maintains an active Shinto shrine on the property, which is why you can receive this goshuin at a Buddhist temple.
