Oharano Shrine
大原野神社

Shrine

Nishikyo-ku, Kyoto

Oharano Shrine is a peaceful shrine in the western hills of Kyoto, far from the busy tourist areas. Founded in the 8th century as the “western guardian” of the capital, it was closely linked to the powerful Fujiwara clan. The approach leads through tall cedar trees and a forest. You will also find stone deer statues on the grounds as symbolic messengers of the gods.
