Temple

Adachi-ku, Tokyo

Nishiarai Daishi temple is known as one of the big three Daishi temples in the Kanto region. It was founded in 830 by the monk Ennin (Jikaku Daishi), giving it nearly 1,200 years of history. People come here especially during New Year and for the daruma festival, where rows of daruma dolls line the grounds. The temple feels lively and welcoming rather than quiet and remote, and its long tradition as a place of prayer for health, good luck, and safe journeys makes it a popular spot for locals and visitors.
