Namba Yasaka Shrine
難波八阪神社
Shrine
Naniwa-ku, Osaka
Namba Yasaka Shrine is probably most famous for its massive lion-shaped ritualistic performance stage with a gaping mouth more than 10 meters tall. The lion is said to swallow bad luck and bring victory or success, which is why students and businesspeople often visit before big events.
The shrine’s origins date back to the 8th century, but the lion hall was added in the 1970s and has become its iconic symbol.
