Mitsumine Shrine
三峯神社

Shrine

Chichibu, Saitama

Mitsumine Shrine is a mountaintop shrine,  known for its panoramic views and strong atmosphere of mountain worship. Perched high on Mount Mitsumine, it is dedicated to wolf deities, which are seen as protectors, so here you will find wolf statues instead of the usual guardian lions.

The shrine is said to have been founded in the early 1st or 2nd century, during the time of the legendary prince Yamato Takeru, who is credited in tradition as its founder. While the exact date isn’t historically confirmed, the shrine is widely regarded as over 1,900 years old, making it one of the oldest mountain shrines in the Kanto region.
