Matsunoo Taisha (Matsuo Taisha)
松尾大社

Shrine

Nishikyo-ku, Kyoto

Matsunoo Taisha is one of the oldest shrines in Kyoto, founded in 701, and sits at the foot of the western mountains near Arashiyama. It’s famous for its sacred spring water, which local sake and miso breweries still use for purification and blessings. The grounds also have beautiful gardens designed by Shigemori Mirei, blending moss, stones, and flowing water.
