Kiyomizudera
清水寺

Temple

Higashiyama-ku, Kyoto

Kiyomizudera is one of Kyoto’s most iconic temples, known for its huge wooden stage that juts out from the main hall and overlooks the city.

Founded in the 8th century, the temple sits on a hillside in Higashiyama in eastern Kyoto and is surrounded by cherry blossoms in spring and bright red leaves in autumn. The entire structure is built without nails, and the views from the terrace are the main highlight.
