Kinkakuji
金閣寺
Temple
Kita-ku, Kyoto
Kinkakuji, or the Golden Pavilion, is a Zen temple in northern Kyoto famous for its top two floors covered entirely in gold leaf. Originally built as a retirement villa for the shogun Ashikaga Yoshimitsu in the 14th century, it was later turned into a temple after his death. The building sits beside a reflective pond, creating a beautiful mirror-like view that changes with the seasons.
