Temple

Ikoma, Nara

Hozanji, also known as Ikoma Shoten, is a temple built into the forested slope of Mount Ikoma in Nara. Founded in the 17th century by the monk Tankai, it became famous for its worship of Kangiten, a deity associated with good fortune and harmonious relationships. The temple grounds have a mix of lantern-lined paths, steep stairways, many jizo statues, and ornate buildings that feel almost hidden in the hillside.
