Chii Hachiman Shrine
知井八幡神社

Shrine

Miyama, Kyoto

Chii Hachiman is a small, beautifully preserved village shrine in Miyama, the rural thatched-roof hamlet north of Kyoto. Located beside rice fields and traditional kayabuki houses, it really feels like a step back into old Japan. The shrine’s origins date back to the Heian period (over 1,000 years ago), and it served as the local protector shrine for the farming community. The shrine grounds are surrounded by old, tall cedar trees.
